Emotional Freedom Techniques 

 

 Emotional Freedom Techniques aka EFT tapping is an evidence based practices that uses accupuncture meridians around the face down to the neck and underarms to assist in healing deep seeded wounds. Case studies have shown that this technique has significantly decreased symptoms of PTSD in war veterans along with all different types of trauma 

 

How it works is you start by thinking of an event that caused you some sort of emotional response. This could literally be any inconvenience to a major traumatic life event. Next, you are going to rate that from 0-10. This is called the SUD scale. Then you are going to say the phrase that resonates with you the most while you start tapping on the crown of your head. You are then going to continue to say the phrase as you move to the next meridian and so on

The phrase that I like to use is "Even though [I have this problem], I deeply and completely love and accept myself". You are then going to continue to say the phrase as you move to the next meridian and so on.

The meridians

The first meridian starts with the crown of your head. You are going to tap for about 15-20 seconds and then move on to the temple. Do this for the same amount of time and then move on to the under eye, then down to below the nose, then below the bottom lip, then to the collar bone, and down to the underarm. 

As you continue, you may feel lighter thinking about the event. You may reassess your rating on the SUD scale and see if it has changed. You may do this until you get to 0 on the SUD scale. 

Please be advised this may take some time. Do not expect a severely traumatic event to go to 0 on the first try. Please give yourself grace and patience as you work through your traumas.
